Day 74 – 2 Samuel: David’s successes

“And David danced before the Lord with all his might, wearing a priestly garment. So David and all the people of Israel brought up the Ark of the Lord with shouts of joy and the blowing of rams’ horns.” 2 Samuel 6:14-15 NLT
Reading 2 Samuel 1:1 to 2 Samuel 10:19
After years of running and hiding from Saul, David is finally crowned king over the tribe of Judah. The rest of Israel, however, follows Saul’s son Ishbosheth. David does not attempt to take the tribes by force but places the matter in God’s hands. After a few years, Ishbosheth is assassinated, and the rest of the tribes finally put their support behind David, who then moves the capital to Jerusalem, defeats the surrounding nations, and even shows kindness to Saul’s family.
David took the fractured kingdom that Saul had left behind and built a strong, united power. Forty years later, David would turn this kingdom over to his son Solomon. Because he had a heart for God, he was a king who governed God’s people by God’s principles and was greatly blessed. We might not have David’s earthly success, but following God is, ultimately, the most successful decision we can make.
Prayer: Father, thank You that we can see how Your plan evolved from the first drop of anointing oil on David’s brow until the crown took its place. Thank You that You have the same plans for us and that the plans You have for us are beautiful. Amen.
