Day 236 – Mark: Message and ministry of Jesus, the Servant

“But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else.” Mark 10:43-44 NLT

Read Mark 1:14 to Mark 13:37

As the Messiah, Jesus fulfilled the prophecies of the Old Testament by coming to earth. He did not come as a conquering king; he came as a servant. He helped people by sharing the message of God and providing healing. And then He performed the ultimate act of service by giving His life as a sacrifice for sin. Because of Jesus’ example, we should be willing to serve God and others. Real greatness in Christ’s Kingdom is shown by service and sacrifice. Ambition or love of power or position should not be our motive; instead, it is because of our love for Him and people.

Mark records more of Jesus’ miracles than sermons. Jesus clearly proved to be a man of power and action, not just words. He did miracles to convince the people of who He was and to confirm to the disciples His true identity. The more convinced we become that Jesus is God, the more we will see His Power and His love in our lives. His mighty works show us that He can save anyone, regardless of their past. His miracles of forgiveness bring healing, wholeness, and changed lives to those who trust Him.

Prayer: Father, thank You that we can learn to be servants in the Kingdom through following the example of our King Jesus – the Servant. May we serve with a heart of Christ and love people as You love them. Amen.
