Day 3 – Genesis: The Creation Story

Reading: Genesis 1:1 to 2:4

“So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed.” Genesis 2:1 NLT

Can you imagine a complete darkness, void of light and noise? Then suddenly, “In the beginning”, God spoke, and light burst through the thick and vast darkness carrying life and truth. God created the sky, seas, land, plant life, animals, fish and birds. But the glory of His creation was us – human beings created in His own image. This creates a certainty of our dignity and worth in Him regardless of our shame, how the world treats us or what we need to face.

When God said, “Let there be light” the light came to be before the creation of the sun on day 4. The light our existence centres around is not the fireball in our universe but Jesus – the Light of the World. From the very beginning, the plan was always Jesus. God never had plan B, it was “plan Jesus Christ” from the start. A beautiful creation story of the salvation of His image bearer: you!

Prayer: Thank You, Father, that You chose me to be an image bearer of You. That, from the beginning of everything, You had me in mind too. And just like there never was a plan B to right the wrong of sin, I am also part of the salvation plan through Jesus by spreading the Gospel. Thank You, Lord, for the story of Creation. Amen.
