Day 82 – A Father’s Plea

Study Luke 8:40-42

“And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at Jesus’ feet and begged Him to come to his house…” Luke 8:41

When Jesus returned across the water, a large multitude welcomed Him, eagerly waiting on the shore. Among the crowd was a man named Jairus, a prominent ruler of the synagogue responsible for managing both the spiritual and business affairs of the local community. Everyone in Capernaum knew Jairus, but it was only now, when his precious twelve-year-old daughter lay at the point of death, that he openly confessed his desperate need for Christ. Falling at Jesus’ feet, he begged Him to come.

Jesus did not demand the distant, soaring faith of the centurion; He graciously responded to the humble plea of a grieving father and set off toward his home. Yet as He walked, the multitudes thronged Him so tightly that He was almost suffocated by the press of the crowd.

Poor Jairus! While every second counted and his daughter’s life slipped quietly away, it must have tortured him to see Jesus delayed by the pressing crowd. God’s timing never fails, but to a waiting heart in the middle of a crisis, His pace can often feel unbearably slow.

Pray with me: Lord Jesus, when the trials of life press in and You feel slow to answer, guard my heart from panic. Give me the humility to fall at Your feet in my deepest desperation and the grace to trust Your timing in every circumstance. Amen. ©
