Day 24 – Leviticus: Theme

“If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, I will send you the seasonal rains. The land will then yield its crops, and the trees of the field will produce their fruit.” Leviticus 26:3-4 NLT
In Leviticus, sacrifices, priests, and the sacred Day of Atonement opened the way for the Israelites to God. They were to worship Him with their lives through obedience to His law. Thus, we read about purity laws (chapters 11-15) and rules for daily living concerning family responsibilities, sexual conduct, relationships, values, personal conduct (chapters 18-20), and vows (chapter 27).
These regulations and instructions involve your walk with God, and the pattern of spiritual living applies to us today, too. Worship has a horizontal aspect – God is honored by our lives as we relate with others.
The final emphasis is celebration. The book of Leviticus provides instructions for Israel’s feasts. These were special, regular, and corporate occasions for remembering what God had done, giving thanks and honor to Him, and rededicating servitude to Him (chapter 23). We, too, can follow God’s feasts of worship and celebration with our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to remember God’s goodness from creation up to the second of our existence.
As you work through Leviticus, rededicate yourself to holiness, worship, confession, repentance, service, and intimate connection. God’s law is love.
Prayer: Father, thank You for showing us a way to celebrate our gratefulness and adoration of You through Your laws and feasts. May we honor Your days as You require, and may we walk along the law with the One who fulfilled the law to strive for holy living. Amen.
