Day 5 – I will NEVER violate My covenant
“For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken,” says the Lord, who has mercy on you.” Isaiah 54:10
I do not know what it is in our human nature to make or accept promises that, in the end, prove to be hard to keep. At some point, that promise will be broken and the disappointment that follows is at times hard to forgive.
But God is the only one ever who can make a promise that will never be broken, this we find throughout the Bible and the one promise we can hold on to is that His covenant will NEVER be broken. A covenant in the ancient world was similar to what we in the modern world would call a contract, treaty, promise, or will. The world will perish – everything as we know it will pass away – but the covenant of God will NEVER be broken because of His faithful love towards us.
Jesus reinstated the covenant between God and man with the symbolism of communion and later the physical act of laying down His life to sign on the proverbial dotted line with His blood, so we can have a total and utter assurance of this steadfast promise.
Prayer: Father, today I ask forgiveness for the promises I have made and broken to you, and people. I also ask forgiveness for the disappointment I felt and ill feelings towards someone who has broken a promise to me. Thank You, Jesus, that You sealed the covenant with Your blood and that I can be assured that not one covenant and promise from the Word of God will ever be broken. I believe God is not a man that He should lie and I take every Word from Him as an unbreakable promise. Amen.
