Truth builds character

“And the foreman replied, ‘She is the young woman from Moab who came back with Naomi. She asked me this morning if she could gather grain behind the harvesters. She has been hard at work ever since, except for a few minutes’ rest under in the shelter.” Ruth 2:6-7

After kind and pious salutations were interchanged between Boaz and his foreman, the foreman gave him a short, yet very informative description of the Moabite woman in his masters’ field.

  • She was a stranger, a Moabite
  • She as allied to his family through Naomi
  • She was very modest and did not start gleaning without permission
  • She was industrious and continued close to her work from the morning

From this account, we learn a lot about the servant too.  He told the truth and did not take the opportunity to gossip about a Moabite woman. So should we also be just in our account of others character and reports we give to our Master. Taking heed not to misrepresent anyone, nor disgracing them in front of God with our view of them. Always remember, that no matter what you think or how you feel about someone else, always bring the truth to God in prayer. If your sister hurt you, tell God: “Lord, I know you love my sister in Christ as much as you love me. And I know that I’ve been hurt by her actions, but I also know she is your hard-working, modest and industrious daughter.” God hates gossip, and sometimes we want to gossip to God about what we think and how we feel it should be. If someone has to give an account of you to God today, what will they say?

Ruth Relationship Advice: Truth builds character which God can trust.

Prayer: Father, ashamed I come to You and ask Your forgiveness for the times I did not tell the truth about someone’s character or did tell the truth towards You about them. Please forgive me for the wrongful accounts I have given about people and help me to see them the way You see them. Guide me to concentrate on the virtues they are bringing to Your Kingdom. Amen.
