Day 6 – I Am the resurrection and the life

“Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this, Martha?” John 11:25-26 NLT

Similar to the previous I Am statements, Jesus does not just talk about what He can do, but rather about Who He is. He does not just give bread – He is the bread. He does not merely reflect the light of God’s glory – He is the Light. With this statement, Jesus declares to be the resurrection and life tying in the Creation story of the first Adam causing sin to enter the world which resulted in death and the eternal life only He (the second Adam) brings.

“And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. HE will strike your head, and you will strike his heel” Genesis 3:15 NLT (emphasis added)

There will be a “He” defeating the serpent.

“But it was the Lord’s good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord’s good plan will prosper in his hands. When he sees all that has been accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for He will bare all their sins.” Isaiah 53:10-11 NLT.

Jesus fulfilled all the Old Testaments prophecies concerning His death and resurrection. Many of the Jews wanted answers from Jesus without having to receive and believe in Him who was the sacrificial offer Himself. Through His resurrection, Jesus was the first fruit of eternal life after death and offers it to all who believe in Him. And, just as He asked Martha, He is asking you today, “Do you believe it?”

Prayer: Father, I have no words to thank You enough for Your plan including Your Only Son, Jesus Christ, to reconcile us with You through His resurrection. I believe with all my heart that Jesus has died for my sins and rose with the resurrection to offer me eternal life too. Thank You Jesus that You are the resurrection and Life. Amen.
