Day 9 – How to pray the I AM statements

“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11

The Tetragrammaton is the four-letter Hebrew theonym יהוה (YWHW), the Name of God in the Bible. The four letters written and read from right to left are “yodh, he, waw, he” and declared to Moses as the I AM. God’s Name is powerful and we would never be able to grasp the deepness of its complete meaning. But, as with every written Word in the Bible, we can pray God’s Word and His name. The promise in Isaiah is that the Lord’s Word shall not return to Him void and us praying is a form of worship magnifying YWHW. When praying the I AM statements of Jesus Christ are also a reminder to us for He Jesus is and that He came to fulfill the Old Testament which He foreshadowed.

The following pray is an example of how you can implement these statements in your prayer life. Your situations and needs can be added to make it personal between You and our Father in Heaven.

Lord Jesus, you said, “I am the bread of life” Through Your grace, You provide and sustain life as You physically met the needs of the crowds on the Galilean hillside and spiritually feed us today still. I ask that You meet my physical, emotional, and spiritual needs today because I believe You are the bread.

You said, “I am the light of the world.” Jesus, You are Light and You dispel all darkness. Please light the path ahead of me like the Word says “Your word is a lamp to my feet.” Shine Your countenance upon me on this day.

Jesus, You said “I am the gate for the sheep” and I thank You for my salvation. You protect and shelter me and let nothing come my way that does not come through You.

Thank You Jesus that you claimed, “I am the Good Shepherd”. You also said that the shepherd will leave the 99 and I ask that if I stray today, You will come and get me. Guide me with Your voice in the folds where You need me.

You said, “ I am the resurrection and the life.” I believe with my whole heart that You are the resurrected Christ and that You banish sadness and impart vitality and give abundance in life. Please resurrect my hopes and enliven what is dead inside me.

Jesus, I believe what you said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” You drive away confusion, distraction, doubt, and death and I ask that You banish the lies I still believe and free my mind, heart, and spirit to walk in Your truth.

Lord Jesus, You invited us back to God’s garden when you said “I am the true vine.” The fruit of the vine is wine which You used to make a new covenant with us through Your blood washing us clean to stand in righteousness before God, our Father the Gardener. Guide me to abide in You always and when I need to be pruned, remind me it is so that I produce better and more fruit for the Kingdom.

In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
