Day 9 – Vista’s

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”Matthew 7:13-14

As you progress up the mountain, there are times you will glimpse a small view of what you can expect from the top. In the devotional “Soar”, Simcha Natan gives two inspiring descriptions of a Vista. It is a view seen through a long narrow opening. The Bible references the “narrow path” a few times. I find it fitting that our view of where we are heading should be sometimes seen through a narrow opening God shows us. You see the view – but you are protected, and informed about your surroundings – without being exposed. A vista is normally within a framed view, like a look through a treeline. Our view of our circumstances and season should be framed by the Word of God reminding us that the view is still in the distant future.

The second definition is a mental view of a succession of remembered or anticipated events. While looking out over the vista and the anticipated view you expect to see when you reach the summit, you need to remain aware of how far God has brought you. The view of your past in hindsight of the future.

The vista you see might be narrow and very distant, but friend, keep climbing the narrow road to the top with the constant promises of God’s Word as your foothold.

Prayer: Father, thank You for the vistas we can see on our way to the top. The glimpses of where we are heading and the surety of Your Word to frame our view. Thank You, Lord, for the succession of remembered events from our past reminding us that You have always been there and always will be. The road is narrow, as Your Word says, but I ask today that You will help us to climb the narrow path and to guide us with Your love and guidance. Amen.
