Day 97 – The call to the cross
Study Luke 9:23
“Then He said to them all, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.’” Luke 9:23
Having announced His own cross, Jesus turned to the crowd and issued a stunning, universal call: if anyone desires to follow Him, they must deny themselves, take up their cross daily, and follow in His footsteps. In the Roman world, carrying a cross meant a one-way journey to execution; no one picked up a cross casually or for fun.
By calling His followers to take up their cross 𝘥𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘺, Jesus wasn’t talking about literal martyrdom, but a daily surrender of self-will. Following Jesus means stepping down from the throne of our own lives, putting self-interest to death, and choosing an other-centered life of love and obedience every single day.
Pray with me: Lord Jesus, my heart naturally clings to self-preservation and comfort. Give me the grace today to deny myself, take up my cross, and follow hard after You. Amen. ©
Love, Iriza
