Designer Idols – Day 3

Temunah

“Take careful heed to yourselves, for you saw no form when the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire, lest you act corruptly and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of any figure: the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any animal that is on the earth or the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air, the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground or the likeness of any fish that is int the water beneath the earth.” Deuteronomy 4:15-18 (NKJV)

The Hebrew for likeness in these passages is Temunah, meaning similitude – something fashioned into a shape embodying the likeness or image of creation, seen as God. Moses reminded Israel that they saw no form or likeness of God on Sinai and warned them not to act corruptly by carving Temunah images to resemble the form of God, a form that was not seen.

Your identity is what makes you uniquely you and though you are made different from anyone else – you are still made in the image of God. You are a living ambassador reflecting His image – the very image satan hates so much. He will attack the image and identity of God at every opportunity he gets. The easiest way is to do what he does best: lie! “Who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.” Romans 1:25 NLT

Temunah’s today represents what the world expects as the “perfect person”. People (more so women) undergo plastic surgery – carving themselves into the “image” they think embodies the perfect likeness of the human form. Instead of striving to be the Spiritual likeness of Christ in our souls, the enemy’s lie twists this truth into the likeness of the physical.

“So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord – who is the Spirit – makes us more and more like him as we are changed into His glorious image.” 2 Corinthians 3:18

Prayer: Father, circumcise my heart from any Temunah’s and teach me to strive to be more to the likeness and glorious image of Jesus Christ than the lie of this world. Point out the Temunah’s that became more important than you so I can break this gentile idolatry in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
