Day 63 – Known by fruit
Study Luke 6:43-45
“For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush.” Luke 6:44
The fruit of our lives is the inevitable result of who we truly are at the core. Eventually, though it may take time for the harvest to come, the fruit we produce becomes painfully clear, revealing the true nature of the tree. There is no hiding it, and not every tree is the same. We must also understand that in the Kingdom, neutrality is not an option.
Right before this, Jesus warned us to examine ourselves first. To deal with the log in our own eye before pointing out the speck in our neighbour’s. So, before we start inspecting the fruit in anyone else’s life, we must pause and ask ourselves the deep, searching question: “Am I bearing fruit to the glory of God?”
Jesus goes on to explain why this is so critical: “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good… for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” Our words are a direct window into our souls. If there is holy, good treasure stored up in the heart, it will naturally flow out through our speech. If there is bitterness or evil stored within, that too will betray us over time. Our words say far more about the state of our hearts than we like to admit, revealing who we truly are when no one else is looking.
Pray with me: Lord Jesus, search my heart today. Root out any bitterness, neutrality, or hidden sin, and fill me with the good treasure of Your Holy Spirit. Guard my tongue so that my words bring life, and let the fruit of my life bring glory to Your name. Amen. ©
