Day 89 – Marked by simplicity, urgency, and sincerity

Study Luke 9:3-6

“And He said to them, ‘Take nothing for the journey, neither staffs nor bag nor bread nor money; and do not have two tunics apiece.’” Luke 9:3

When Jesus sent the apostles out into the towns, He prescribed a radical way of traveling: 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘳𝘢. This wasn’t just about hardship; it was about purity of purpose and absolute dependence on God. Echoing the strict rules of the Temple where men left all worldly trade behind, the disciples were to enter their mission with complete sincerity, ensuring no one could mistake their calling for a commercial enterprise or a beggar’s trade.

Traveling light forced them to trust the Lord for daily provision. If we do not truly trust God, how can we invite others to do so? Furthermore, their mission was 𝘶𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘵. If a town rejected their message, they were not to linger or argue, but to shake the dust from their feet and move forward. Undeterred, the apostles departed, preaching the Gospel and healing everywhere. How urgent and sincere do we treat the Gospel?

Pray with me: Lord Jesus, strip away my reliance on worldly securities and teach me to walk in radical dependence on You. Keep my heart sincere and my focus urgent as I share Your love with others. Amen. ©

Love, Iriza
