Day 105 – Greatness is marked by mercy, not judgment
Study Luke 9:51-56
“And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, ‘Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?’” Luke 9:54
When a Samaritan village inhospitably rejected Jesus as He journeyed toward Jerusalem, James and John reacted with fiery indignation, asking if they should call down lightning from heaven to burn the villagers up. They wanted swift judgment and retribution.
But Jesus turned and sternly rebuked them, declaring that the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. True kingdom greatness is never marked by a harsh, vengeful spirit that thirsts for judgment, but by the patient, relentless mercy and grace of our Savior.
Pray with me: Lord Jesus, cleanse my heart from anger and a desire for retaliation. Fill me with Your patient mercy, and teach me to respond to rejection with grace rather than judgment. Amen. ©
Love, Iriza
