Day 113 – Putting Jesus first
Study Luke 9:59-60
“Then He said to another, ‘Follow Me.’ But he said, ‘Lord, let me first go and bury my father.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.’” Luke 9:59-60
When Jesus called another man to follow Him, the man asked for a delay: let me first wait until my elderly father passes away, I receive my inheritance, and I settle my affairs. To human logic, it sounded like a responsible request. But Jesus used it to highlight a vital truth: following Christ demands absolute, top priority.
Earthly responsibilities and family ties matter, but nothing can be allowed to sit ahead of our immediate obedience to the King and His kingdom. Jesus requires first place in our hearts, without conditions or delays.
Pray with me: Lord Jesus, forgive me for putting earthly distractions and delays ahead of my obedience to You. Help me to give You the unquestioned top priority in my life today. Amen. ©
