Breath – Day 8

Exposing breath

“Then at your command, O Lord, at the blast of you breath, the bottom of the sea could be seen, and the foundations of the earth were laid bare.” Psalm 18:14-15

On the day the Lord rescued David from all his enemies and Saul, he sang this Psalm as a tribute to worship God for saving him. Reading verse 15, I cannot help to think how powerful God’s breath really is – cutting through masses of water to lay bare the bottom of the sea and exposing the foundations of the earth. A little science note here: the deepest part of the ocean (measured by our technology today) is 11,022km deep in the Pacific Ocean. That is really, really deep… And we will never fathom how deep (or even where) the foundation of this earth physically lies.

Deeper still, I believe, we bury our sins and our secrets. So deep in fact, that we think no one will ever know of its existence. But, at the blast of God’s breath, the deepest deep of our hearts are laid bare like the deepest part of the ocean floor. Exposing the foundation of our soul to our Creator. There is nothing we can hide from God, so why are we still burying it away in the darkest corners of our hearts? The things we choose to bury deep are those things that hurt the most. Cause us the most shame and colours in the lie that God cannot forgive it.

Allow God to blast His breath into your heart to expose what you should repent. To heal what hurt the most. His breath is exposing and cleansing. Through this whole process know this: God does this with love, and He is with you while you are dealing with the deep stuff.

Prayer: Father, I ask that You blast Your breath to expose the depths of my heart. To cut through to my foundation to lay everything bare to You. I ask Your forgiveness for the sin I am trying to hide or justify. I ask Your healing for the hurts I have buried. Thank You for Your Mercy, o Lord, and your sufficient Grace. Amen.
