Dear Thoughts… Day 13

Anxious I

“Humble yourselves, therefor, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7

When I was a little, barefoot, freckled face girl – I loved to play outside living out my wild imagination. I believed I could fly and would spin around and around until I was so dizzy, I would fall over. Being worried or anxious is exactly like spinning. You go faster and faster until the world makes no more sense. By the time you come to a halt – you are exactly in the place where you started.

The middle letter in anxious is I. Have you ever noticed this? Because my biggest worries and anxieties are rooted in me. About me. I. Although I try to claim I am worried about someone else, the sentence still starts with – well you guessed it – I. You are numero uno in your mind and even if you start worrying about other things – you are actually becoming anxious because you do not know how the situation is going to affect you. We need to slow our minds and just focus our thoughts (casting them) on God.

Dear Thoughts… I will stop spinning with anxiety and worry and just humble myself before my Father God. I will take the “I” out of the equation and just give it all to Him because He cares for me. I will change my focus to His proper timing and not my spinning world.

Prayer: Father, there is so much to say about anxiety and worry. This devotional is just not enough. But I pray, my God, to allow the words to grow in the hearts of those who need to deal with anxiety and worry. Teach us, Lord to cast it onto You. Thank You for caring so much about us that You take this away from us too. Free our minds, Lord to recognise anxiety and worry before it starts a spinning circle. Amen.
