Dear Thoughts… Day 12

Anxious thoughts

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ” Philippians 4:6-7

Like me, you’ve probably read this passage a lot of times. But have you ever thought of applying it to your every thought – especially the toxic ones?

Anxious thoughts are like oil floating on water. It does not mix – it only contaminates. The mind feasts on what it is focused on. When you are focused on the anxious though, it consumes your thinking and will be the making or breaking of a positive thought pattern.

Thinking and allowing runaway thoughts invites anxiety. One thought gets passed on to the next like a relay baton and before you know it, you are anxious about things you did not think of from the start. I found, when I start thinking thoughts of truth and thanksgiving instead of allowing anxious thoughts free reign, it wraps my mind in peace and helps me to rise above negativity caused by anxiety.

Dear Thoughts… I will pray about all my anxious thoughts and make my request known to God because God’s peace – which surpasses all understanding – will guard my heart and mind through Christ Jesus. I believe this will bring my anxious thoughts under the obedience of Christ and allow me to control my emotions caused by anxiety.

Prayer: Father, thank You for giving us the tools to battle anxious thoughts. I ask that You guide us to break anxious thought patterns and to lean into Your peace. Amen.
