Day 6 – Words that inspire faith

Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
The Word is life. It cannot be anything but effective and transforming. It washes the soul (Ephesians 5:26). Words have power. God spoke the universe into being, “… upholding all things by the word of His power …” (Hebrews 1:3). Solomon says that life and death are in the power of the tongue. If God used His words to create everything we see today, nature, seasons, energy, etc, and He said that it was good, then shouldn’t we be more focused on the words we speak?
I don’t think we can fathom the immense power that is made available when we agree with God and speak His very words found in the Scriptures. Speaking of the promise He gave Abraham; it states that God gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist (Hebrews 4:17). This is the way God functions. All the promises in the Word are available to us. Our responsibility is to speak the same words. It might seem foolish to pray, “Lord, thank You that I have more than enough,” when the cupboards are bare. But speaking the very Word of God is a creating force – faith in action.
Prayer: Creator God, Elohim, You are the Author and Finisher of our faith. In Your words are found life, healing, transforming power. Thank you for making such a wonderful opportunity available to us. Help me to remember to speak Your thoughts over my life. Amen.
