Breath – Day 1

Take a breath
How long can you hold your breath? The human body can function without food between 40 to 80 days and 4 to 12 days without water (depending on exterior conditions). But oxygen? Between 30 – 180 seconds of oxygen deprivation, you may lose consciousness. At the one-minute mark, brain cells begin to die. At 3 minutes brain damage becomes more likely and at 5 minutes – death becomes imminent. Yes, we need oxygen. We need to breathe… We need to breathe the breath of God.
“All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately – behaving honourably with personal integrity and moral courage]; so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 AMP
I believe there might be a lot of us living in a spiritual oxygen-deprived atmosphere, not realising the importance of God’s breath in our lives. When this happens, it only takes a little bit of stress for us to be gasping for breath. I wonder how many today feel alive with no breath.
God’s Word (His breath) teaches us what is true and helps us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip us to do every good work.
In one of Ezekiel’s visions, God told him to prophesy breath over dry bones and they came alive under God’s breath! If God’s breath (His Word) could cause a valley of dry bones to come alive – to be a great army – think about the power it can have in your life!
Take a deep God-breath today and see what He does.
Prayer: Father, thank You for showing us that Your Word is Your breath and that You use it for so many things in our lives. Teach us the importance of Your breath during this devotional. Open my spiritual lungs to take deep breaths of You. Amen.
