Patience is a virtue

“Then Naomi said to her, ‘Just be patient, my daughter, until we hear what happens. The man won’t rest until he has settled things today” Ruth 3:18

I found it a bit ironic that the last verse of Ruth 3 advises us to “Just be patient” … That is exactly the last thing we want to do or want to hear, right? I must confess; I wasn’t known to be a very patient person. Not with things, situations, and most of all not people. But through the years, God taught me a lot of patience – especially with people. Patience is a virtue, and I’m still learning. It’s a tough lesson.

Patience is a foundational rock for any relationship. Your spouse may not be so prompt to decide and your impatience with them will only hurt the relationship instead of building it. Patience is repeated throughout the Bible and is also an attribute of a person living in accord with the Holy Spirit according to Galatians 5 as a “Fruit of the Spirit”. Our relationship with God our Father should especially shine with patience because God is not a man that He should lie and He will make good on His promises. “Just be patient, my daughter…”

Ruth Relationship Advice: Patience is the calm acceptance that things can happen in a different order than the one you have in mind.

Prayer: Father, thank You for teaching me patience. I know it’s not the easiest thing to learn in a society speeding up faster than the earth rotates. Show me the importance of patience in my relationship with You. Amen.
