Day 50 – Who else?

“And their scribes and the Pharisees complained against His disciples, saying, “Why do You eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” Luke 5:30

Levi (Matthew) gave up everything to follow Jesus, yet there was no hint of regret in his heart. Instead, he threw a great feast for Jesus because he couldn’t wait to introduce Him to all his friends. A truly saved soul never wants to walk into heaven alone!

Naturally, the Pharisees began to criticize, attacking Jesus indirectly by questioning His disciples (a tactic we still see today). They were outraged that a well-known Rabbi would sit at the same table and share a meal with notorious sinners, something completely unheard of in their culture. The religious leaders kept themselves strictly isolated from the hurting world, but where else would Jesus be except right beside those who desperately needed Him?

Jesus answered them with profound simplicity because He is the Great Physician of the soul, and a doctor belongs with the sick. His critics were just as sick with sin, but they refused to acknowledge their own disease. Trapped in self-righteousness, they viewed everyone else as unclean while considering themselves above reproach.

Jesus is the perfect Physician. He is always available, never misdiagnoses, provides a total cure, and wipes away the debt of our sin without charging a fee.

Pray with me: Jesus, I need You every day. You are my great Physician and my Daily bread. Thank You, that I know You will sit at my table without being ashamed because You came for my sins too. Amen. ©

Love, Iriza
