Day 8 – Dismissive

“Do not correct a scoffer [who foolishly ridicules and takes no responsibility for his error] or he will hate you; Correct a wise man [who learns from his error], and he will love you.” Proverbs 9:8

As long as our worth is found in the things of the world, we will be filled with pride and pride is apposite to being teachable as it tells us that we already know it all. This attitude causes us to miss out on God’s messages which He sends as, when and through what medium He chooses to use, whether people, song or prophecy – sometimes even through the words of those whom we consider less spiritual than ourselves. Becoming like Christ means being attentive and sensitive and expectant to wherever the Holy Spirit would choose to reveal Himself, not being dismissive before making sure that we do not miss what God is trying to do in us through whatever circumstances or conversation we find ourselves in, not to mention the blows of hurt and humiliation given to those who took the chance to approach us. God does not think like we do and He even uses fools to confound the so-called wise, so being humble and receptive is our key to revelation.

Prayer: Lord, You have taught us to have a spirit of compassion, gentleness and kindness, to be approachable and will You not confound us with the reality that it was not merely for us to bestow our wisdom on others, but it can just as easily be to receive revelation from You! May you find us opening our hearts in humbleness and expectation, Lord, for Your time and place can be any time and place. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
