Breath – Day 5

Strengthen by Your breath
“Then as I watched, muscles and flesh formed over the bones. Then skin formed to cover their bodies, but they still had no breath in them.” Ezekiel 37:8 NLT
I never liked the life-size skeleton in my biology class. Mr. Bones reminded me of what I looked like on the inside too. I just found the reminder eerie. So, I tried to avoid seeing him with his blank stare in the corner of the class. Until one day. This was the day I was dreading since my first day in Biology. We are going to study Mr. Bones! With my mind screaming “Noooooo!” I found myself in front of him. Face to skull. My assignment was to analyse the hand and as I took his bony fingers in mine, they broke off! Teary-eyed I looked at the teacher, “I broke him” was all I could choke out.
We have learned from Ezekiel that God’s breath put the bones in order, making them whole skeletons again. It is a flimsy thing, a skeleton. Nothing is keeping the bones together. Nothing giving it strength. In verse 8 we see that God’s breath attaches sinews, tendons, and muscles to the bones – giving the skeleton structured strength. God’s Word literally brings strength to the body allowing it to function together. Strength to our bony spiritual foundation.
We find a beautiful demonstration of the power of God’s breath in the Song of Moses. He said “At the blast of your breath, the waters piled up! The surging waters stood straight like a wall; in the heart of the sea, the deep waters became hard. The enemy boasted, ‘I will chase them and catch up with them. I will plunder them and consume them. I will flash my sword; my powerful hand will destroy them.” Exodus 15:8-9 NLT
This is what the enemy says about you and me too. He wants to overtake and destroy us. Note that, God already parted the sea with His breath for His children to go through. One blast of His breath is all it takes to part the seas in our lives. God put flesh on the bones with His breath before it became an army. God’s Word – His breath, gives us strength before we know we need it.
Prayer: Father, thank You for giving my foundation, (the bones of my spiritual life) strength with Your mighty breath. For the strength You give me and the way You make for me before I even know I need it. Lord, this truth I will keep deep in my heart and when I face struggles, I will remember that You have already strengthened me with Your breath.
