Day 11 – Faith
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1
Faith – having trust, assurance, and belief in God, knowing all things come from Him.
In Hebrew faith is Emunah (pronounced eh-moo-NAH) meaning faith or belief.
When looking at the Seven Deadly Sins, it is easy to recognise the symptoms of sin in other’s lives, but a bit more difficult to identify them in our own lives. Through the conviction of the Holy Spirit guiding us to pinpoint the shortfall of our desires leading to sin, we can bring them to the feet of Jesus for forgiveness and repentance. But can you identify the virtues?
If I ask you today – while you are reading this – to identify your faith, what would you answer? You might say it is trusting God, your belief in God, or the assurance that He is all you hope for. All are admiral and correct answers, but does it look like that in your daily life?
To me, faith is the conviction of the unseen to stand against any form of doubt, difficulty or desire whilst your hope is secured in the love of Jesus that no matter what desire (or temptation), difficulty, or doubt may cross your life, you are assured of Your belief in God. In such an extreme that before you start entertaining an idea, desire or worry – you have stopped the thought in faith by capturing it in Jesus Christ. This is not easy at all. We worry and overthink. Desire and want. Doubt and wonder. I assure you, dear friend, that when we start practicing faith and using it as a weapon against the enemy and his lures, we will be victorious in an unrelenting, unshakable faith through Jesus Christ who overcame it all. It is possible, and whilst cementing faith as a foundational stone in your life, you are building a secure and beautiful relationship with God.
Prayer: Father, thank You that You have given us faith as a virtue and to build our relationship with You on this important, foundational principle. Lord, during this devotional, please teach us how to strengthen our faith to be an important pillar of our hope and though faith is unseen, that it will be the conviction of our hearts. Amen.
