Day 124 – Psalm: Theme

“But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high. I cried out to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy mountain.” Psalm 3:3-4 NLT
At the centre of the Bible, we find the book of Psalms. This great collection of songs and prayers expresses the heart and soul of humanity. In these pages, we see a whole range of human experiences expressed in words. It holds no clichés; instead, David and the other writers honestly poured out their feelings, reflecting a dynamic, powerful, and life-changing friendship with God. The Psalmists confess their sins, doubts, and fears, asking God for help in times of trouble, and praise and worship Him.
Whether the writers are despairing or rejoicing, you will always see them sharing honest feelings with God. Because of their honesty, men and women throughout history have come, again and again, to the book of Psalms for comfort during times of struggle. Through the Psalms, they have risen from the depths of despair to new heights of joy and praise as they have discovered the power of God’s everlasting love and forgiveness. Allow the honesty of emotions in the Book of Psalms to guide you into a deeper and genuine relationship with God, where you, too, can share your honest feelings with your Creator.
Prayer: Father, may the Psalms guide us so we can communicate with you with honesty and truth, just as these writers. May we live in the joy of the words and pour our hearts to You in times of distress and suffering. Thank You for sketching the Psalms for us as a compass to our emotions. Amen.
