Day 9 – Decisive

“She considers a new field before she buys or accepts it expanding prudently and not courting neglect of her present duties by assuming other duties; with her savings of time and strength she plants fruitful vines in her vineyard” Proverbs 31:16 (ESV)

I am bad when it comes to handling finances. A credit card becomes a target and not a limit. The Proverbs woman is different though. She owns property, produces fruit, sells, and still takes care of her family. Superwoman, if there ever was one! She obviously understands it all. But look closer. She is, in fact, a very modern woman. This woman is not reliant on others for her wealth. She creates wealth and still stays on top of all her duties. She makes earning an income and making decisions sound easy.

When the Bible refers to her planting fruitful vines in her vineyard, she reminds us of John 15.  A Vineyard that has eternal value and carries unending fruit. This woman is connected to the True Vine and is prepared to be cherished by the Vinedresser. She is planted in Him, and bears fruit. And the fruit she bears, she shares. She looks to others in need. Be it physical or spiritual.

The only way we can be able to take care of others is if we are being restored by the Vine. As we follow in the footsteps of Christ, we can detect what is needed and bring sustenance to those around us. God wants to form His character in you. A character who cares and shares.

Prayer: Lord, where I have failed to bear fruit. Help me to stay rooted in You so that I can grow and be used to help others. Amen.
