Day 8 – Organized

“She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants.” Proverbs 31:15
Thinking of Lemuel’s mother, a queen (in a palace full of servants) getting up early in the morning is just not what I expect from a queen – never mind making food for her family and servants. But we are not queens and we need to feed the family. Some of us are not “morning stars” and I think the advice from the queen has a little bit more depth to it.
This verse leads us to a deeper meaning and – let me remind you – that Jesus was also an early riser to pray. In Mark 1:35 it is written “And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, He departed and went out to a desolate place, and there He prayed.” This made me think that verse 15 is not just about rising early, but about the principle of being organized, hardworking, and diligent.
Ruth 2:2 “And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favour”. Ruth understood that it was her responsibility to take care of them and coming late to the field meant that there will be nothing to glean. As women we have to juggle daily life as a wife, mother, sister, breadwinner, and so much more.
The principle highlighted today is that a good wife is to be hardworking and organized. Managing a palace (or your household) is not for a woman waiting to be served. No, she needs to get her hands dirty. There is more: it is also meant to make time to sit at the feed of your Creator and seek Him.
The point is that God created us so we can work hard and be organized while doing so. We do not need to lose sleep over our daily tasks or over how to accomplish everything. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all who labor and are heavily laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light”.
The Lord wants an organized bride willing to make time to spend in His presence, to fellowship together with Him, and to make time to get to know Him.
Prayer: Father help me to make time in my busy schedule to sit at Your feet. Teach me to be organized and an early riser to have more time with You. Thank you for my family and for being my King. Amen.
