Day 3 – Water turned to blood

God vs Hapi

In the context of war, it’s common knowledge that a battle without a strategy will inevitably result in defeat.

God had a well-thought-out plan for the plague battle and His strategy was straightforward. As written in Exodus 7:5, “The Egyptians shall know I am the Lord, when I stretch out My hand against Egypt and bring out the people of Israel amongst them.” Now, let’s take a look at how Pharaoh responds to our Father and King’s strategy.

The idiom “leave no stone unturned” comes to mind when discussing the Nile. This river was a symbol of life and offered a rich source of food, as it is the longest river on the planet. Hapi was the Egyptian god associated with the Nile and fertility. It was believed that he also oversaw the fish and birds in the Marshes. The first plague that occurred was the turning of water into blood. We all know that water is crucial for survival. The Nile is no exception; it sustains life on our planet. Exodus 7:11 “Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, their canals, and their ponds, and all their pools of water, so that they may become blood, and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, even in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone”.

During the time when the Nile turned into blood, all the fish died, and the river emitted a foul odour. This caused a shortage of drinkable water for both Egyptians and Israelites for seven consecutive days. This duration is significant because it showcased the superiority of God over the gods, particularly Hapi. Despite Pharaoh summoning his magicians who replicated the same, he arrogantly believed that God was no match for him and retreated to his home. However, Hapi was ultimately defeated, and the Egyptians were left in awe of God’s wonders.

Battle points: God 1 and the Egyptian god 0.

We do not need to fight our battles alone because our battle strategy starts on our knees. Call upon the Lord to fight your battles.

Prayer: Father, thank You for the strategy You have for the battles against me. The only thing I must do during a battle is the be still and on my knees in prayer and You, Lord will do the rest. Amen
