Designer Idols – Day 13

Mammon
“No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” Luke 16:13 NKJV
The very well-known god of riches, Mammon. I know people to whom their money is everything. The continuous growth of their wealth is their only priority. They would go to extreme lengths to add another zero to the bank balance. The love of money (the root of all evil) is an infectious form of idol worship to whom many fall.
“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven?” Luke 16:10-11
Jesus saw the one thing redirecting the rich young man worship from God. It was not his physical riches, but his faithfulness in stewarding it for the Kingdom of God. Money is not a sin. The love of money is. This gluttonous love takes centre stage in your heart. Jesus explains that we need to take responsibility for little things. Even in ten cents. I cannot take one pittance with me to Heaven. But, if I am responsible with the money God gives me – and not allow it to become an idol in my heart – He has great riches for me! Have you ever thought about what God is faithfully accumulating on your behalf?
Prayer: Father, I trust You completely with my finances. I pray that You will show me where this has become bigger than You in my life and teach me to be a responsible steward with what You give me. Even if it is little. I want to be faithful and serve my one true Master – You. Amen.
