Day 18 – Doubt
“But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted.” Matthew 14:30 NTL
Does it feel like you are drowning in the storm? Sinking in your situations? Lost your focus on where God sent you and the ministry He laid in your heart?
Here is this great apostle Peter – the rock on which Jesus chose to build His church, who walked with Jesus, had conversations with Him, heard His physical voice while He was teaching Heaven’s message, saw His face and broke bread with Him. Yes, this great apostle, sank. (I often wondered if he could swim, seeing he was a fisherman… or maybe the fear was so overwhelming that the only thing he could do was to reach up.)
The moment he saw the strong wind and waves, the moment He took his eyes off Jesus, fear gripped him, and he began to doubt. The storm around him and the realisation of him walking on the water might have been too big to comprehend and instead of focusing His faith on Jesus, it turned to doubt. The enemy will try everything to turn your eyes off the Miracle worker – even for just a second – so fear and doubt can flood you like the waves of the storm he is waging against you.
Yes, this great apostle, sank… why are we so harsh on others when they start to sink?
Prayer: Father, from Peter we can do the impossible if we keep our eyes on Jesus and in our humanity can sink when we lose focus because of the storms vying for our attention. Forgive us the times when we thought the storm was bigger than You. And bring to remembrance Your miracle-working power still active in our lives today. Amen.
