Day 25 – She values inner beauty

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last;” Proverbs 31:30a NLT
You need to have some form of bravery to grow older! Because looking in the mirror and comparing my 40-ish body to my 20-ish body… let’s just say I am thankful for the grace God gave me to accept myself. I have some wrinkles, grey hairs and everything just seems to accept gravity as its friend. So I dash a little makeup and squeeze myself into one of those “look thin thing-a-ma jigs”. Should do the trick right?
But here’s the thing: to the world you look pretty while wearing some fashion outfit and spend hours perfecting your makeup while trying to follow a Pinterest “How to put on the perfect eyeliner” video. The truth is, the world only sees the exterior. The makeup. The hairdo. The outfit. The accessories. The world does not see your heart as God does. Your love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are missed by a world blinded by vanity. God’s armor is not fashionable enough in a world conditioned to accept evil over righteousness. Yet, these are the very things inner beauty is cultured from.
I am not saying not to care what you look like or not to take care of yourself, just don’t let this become an idol you worship instead of God.
Your spiritual beauty routine should start by spending time with God to learn and understand how to beautify your heart in line with His Word. Foster spiritual disciplines (worship, Bible study, prayer, fasting, and testifying) and grow into a deeper, intimate relationship with your Father.
External beauty will fade, but a beautiful soul is eternal.
Prayer: Father, I want to work at myself to ensure that my soul is beautiful for you to look at. That inner beauty is more important than what the world expects to see which is fleeting, deceptive, fading, and superficial. May each woman praying this be filled with the knowledge and hunger to cultivate healthy, Word-based disciplines, and may her soul bear an abundance of the Fruit of the Spirit. Amen.
