Day 27 – Sand in your sandals

“And He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave town. Any place that does not receive you or listen to you, as you go out from there, shake the dust off the soles of your feet for a testimony against them.” Mark 6:10-11

Anyone who ever walked on a sandy road with sandals would completely understand there is nothing more annoying than the sand scuffing your feet while walking. And in Biblical times the shoe fashion did not include brand-named hiking shoes, but sandals.

Jesus instructed His disciples to shake the dust off their feet as a testimony against the people who did not receive them or listen to them. This prophetic action was to show that they would not take the offence of rejecting hearts with them on the road so that the dust not blister or scuff their feet as they bring the Good News to another place. Moving from garden to garden, vineyard to vineyard, grove to grove, or field to field, we should learn to shake the dust from our sandals and leave with clean feet and a clean heart.

This is a lesson hard to learn. See, sometimes we stubbornly go back to try and force the acceptance of Jesus on people. Other times we allow the dust of their unrepentance to grind our feet into blisters, slowing our walk to the next place while arriving bruised, broken, and irritated. But Jesus did not design us to wash our own feet. Serving in humbleness, He washed the feet of His disciples ensuring they were clean to move to the next field – taking the Good News to the fields of the world. Search your sandals today for any dust of offence that might linger and ask Jesus to wash your feet so you can undertake a new road in His footsteps of Holiness.

Prayer: Father, I really do not like sand in my shoes nor the effect thereof and today I ask that You help me search my sandals and feet for any dust that might hinder me to move the next location You have for me. Being stationary in ministry is not according to Your will because Jesus, You sent the disciples, You called us to follow You and to go to the ends of the world spreading Your Word. There is always movement amongst our ministries and ministers. Please teach us the humbleness to wash each other’s feet with love and Living water. Amen.
