Day 290 – 1 Timothy – Instructions on right belief and the church

“The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith. But some people have missed this whole point. They have turned away from these things and spend their time in meaningless discussions.” 1 Timothy 1:5-6 NLT

Read 1 Timothy 1:1 to 1 Timothy 3:16

Paul instructed Timothy to preserve the Christian faith by teaching sound doctrine and modelling godly living. At his young age, Timothy had to oppose false teachers who were leading church members away from belief in salvation by faith in Jesus Christ alone. It takes discipline to be a leader in the church, and, like all pastors, he had to guard his heart and motives, minister faithfully, and live above reproach.

Just as this advice is for Timothy, we, as believers, should follow Paul’s sound advice too – to be filled with love from a pure heart, have a clear conscience through repentance of our sin and forgiveness, and genuine faith founded in Christ and rooted in the Word.

Prayer: Father, thank You for the practical advice and guidelines to become mature Christians. May we seek Your truth and keep away from those who spend their time in meaningless discussions about religion and topics that will lead us astray. Thank You for the youth who are becoming leaders and for guiding and protecting them. Amen.
