Day 293 – 2 Timothy – Foundations of Christian service
“Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things.” 2 Timothy 2:7 NLT
Read 2 Timothy 1:1 to 2 Timothy 2:26
Paul gives helpful advice to Timothy to remain solidly grounded in Christian service and to endure suffering during the difficult days to come. In the face of opposition and persecution, Timothy was to carry out his ministry without fear of shame. Paul urged him to utilize boldly the gifts of preaching and teaching that the Holy Spirit had given him.
Jesus Christ was faithful to us in dying for our sins. Paul was a faithful minister and missionary even when he was imprisoned. In this last letter, he urges Timothy to maintain not only sound doctrine but also loyalty, diligence, and endurance. Like in those days, we can count on opposition, suffering, and hardship as we serve Christ. But this shows that our faithfulness is having an effect on others and that we are standing on a solid foundation of Christian service.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the encouragement and wisdom we find in this letter, and that it gives us a foundation to serve others through Jesus. Thank You for the love enveloped in these words, and I ask that You bind it to our hearts. Amen.
