Day 3 – Favorable Peace

“May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” Numbers 6:26 NLT
A woman security guard came towards us, I presumed to take up her shift for the evening. Before she reached us her loud, stern voice carried the distance, “Visiting hours are over, you must leave.” I looked at the girls, flustered, out of breath and desperate to see their grandmother. “Please,” I asked and told her why we were here and why were so very late. She looked at us in turn. “What’s her name?” she asked, and I gave her the details. “Oh, oumatjie” she said and told us to wait as she tapped a code on the keypad to unlock the security gate and disappeared around the corner.
We waited.
I prayed and asked, “Lord, please have favor on us so we can see her, even if it is just for a few minutes.”
We waited.
She appeared around the corner with the matron on duty. “We are not allowed to let visitors come in outside of visiting hours,” she said, and my heart sank “but I can let you see her.” Gratitude flowed from my heart as we followed her to an isolated room from the main ward. There was compassion and kindness in her friendly eyes. There she was, my mom. Small and frail under the hospital’s white blanket. “Take your time” she smiled and walked out.
Prayer: Father, thank You that peace follows Your favor and that Your will be done through the obedience of Your children. Thank You for the beautiful blessing of peace in the benediction of Numbers 6 and we, as Your children, can rest assured that You will always give us Your peace. Amen.
