Time has always been a vital element, something of utmost importance to God โ€“ even though He is not affected by the ticking of the clock. He established His calendar: years, seasons, months, and days.

Seven (representing creation) is an important number in Godโ€™s Word as it represents perfection and wholeness. The last day of our week is the completion of Godโ€™s seven days. On the day numbered for perfection, on the day He completed all He planned and called into existence, He sanctified it and rested.

In his book ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜š๐˜ข๐˜ฃ๐˜ฃ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ฉ, Abraham Joshua Heschel writes: โ€œThe meaning of the Sabbath is to celebrate time rather than space. Six days a week, we live under the tyranny of things of space; on the Sabbath, we try to become attuned to It is a day on which we are called upon to share in what is eternal in time, to turn from the results of creation to the mystery of creation; from the world of creation to the creation of the world.โ€

The Sabbath is the pause in your space to take time for your soul to find rest in its Creator. It is time to stop trying to conquer the world. To achieve things in space. Let time take you over. In another part of Heschelโ€™s book, he says, โ€œthe Sabbath is a time to realize that the world has already been created, and we are to stop trying to create for ourselves.โ€ This is the pivotal point to start observing the Sabbath โ€“ laying down our labours and ourselves to find rest and relationship with God our Father, the Architect of time.

Prayer: Father, thank You for the reminder that the Sabbath is indeed holy and a created time You specifically made for all of Your creation. Lord, please help me find rest in the appointed time and deepen my relationship with You as You teach me that Youโ€™ve already taken care of creating the world and not letting the created world rule over me. Amen.
