Day 30 – She is fair

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice.” Proverbs 31:8-9

Let’s be honest for a minute. We all like the sound of justice because we want things to be fair. We believe people who have cheated and lied should be punished. It does sound a little harsh, but it’s true. We want people who have done wrong to be held accountable. Especially those who wronged and hurt us. But when we look at justice through the power of the cross, it changes our view of justice and shifts our perspective. Someone had to pay for the sin in the world and it should have been us. But instead, God sent Jesus, His only Son, to die a painful death on the cross to be the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. That is God’s justice.

Is the Proverbs 31 fair? Yes. In all her dealings with her family and career, she understands that God is Judge over all. To forgive is fair. Sounds a bit farfetched but think about it for a moment. God wants us to forgive to set us free and to give the case over to Him, the true judge. His judgement reigns supreme and only He knows how to deal with our case. Better than we ever would. But if we choose to hold onto that grudge, the hurt, and the pain – the case is still with us.

All this being said we should remember we are His ambassadors on this earth, and He has given us the authority to speak up for those who cannot do it for themselves.  To intercede in prayer on their behalf and to lead them to a place of forgiveness and giving it all over to Him.

Take the time today to examine your heart and ask the Holy Spirit – our Advocate – to show you what unforgiveness you are holding on to and give it over to God. In heaven’s courtroom, we already have victory through Christ Jesus. Ask the Holy Spirit for whom you can intercede who cannot speak for themselves and are crushed and how you can help them to reach the point of forgiveness.

Prayer: Father, please help me to understand the power and fairness of forgiveness. Teach me to identify those who cannot speak for themselves so I can intercede on their behalf. May the forgiveness I show to others add to my character as a Godly woman, so the power of the cross is noticed in my life. Amen.
