Day 41 – Saving Rahab

Reading: Joshua 1:1 to Joshua 2:24
“And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you” Joshua 2:9 KJV
The story of Rahab is known by many Christians. She was known as a harlot (prostitute), a lady with no good reputation. Rahab knows about the power of God because she hears the gossip and the fear of the people in Jericho. Rahab was a risk taker as a harlot and was used to dangerous situations and risked her life to hide two spies. Will you go and hide in a harlot’s house like the two spies, I think not. We are very attentive to our reputations and will avoid situations where we need to associate with a harlot, yet the two spies end up hiding in Rehab’s house. I wonder why in Rahab’s house? If I can guess it is because what happened in a harlot’s house stays in a harlot’s house.
Rahab’s story reminds me of who Jesus is and the example of His life. Jesus didn’t go to the wealthy with big houses, no you will find Him in strange places. Jesus didn’t shy away from poverty, sick beds, or awkward people. He will bend down and pick you up from the ground like He did for the woman who bled for years. He will meet you at the well like He met the Samaritan women. He will meet you when you are separated like He meets the leper man. He will not cross the street to avoid you, He will meet you to restore you. He will hide you in Egypt amongst your enemies or hide you in a harlot’s establishment. Rahab is a story of God’s grace, not a story of a good person deserving of salvation. Rahab a harlot, a nobody with a bad reputation, and maybe in your mind a person with no significance. Rahab became a descendant of our Savoir Jesus. She was the mother of Boaz who married Ruth.
Maybe you also feel like a nobody with a bad reputation, which has no significance. I want to say to you “God sees you and He will use you just as you are. You do not need to change because God will change you”.
Prayer: Lord nothing is impossible for You. No sin is too big for You to forgive. We also want to make a statement like Rahab and declare our faith in Jesus our Saviour. For You saved me. You left the 99 sheep to find me. Thank you, Lord, for meeting me and loving me as I am. Amen.
