Day 42 – Follow Me

Study Luke 5:1-11

“So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him.” Luke 5:11

Here we find the crowd pressing up against Jesus to hear the word of God. A multitude hungry for the truth. Jesus was standing at the Lake of Gennesaret; the mention of this geographical location indicates that Luke is revealing something important. Isaiah 9:1-2 prophesies about the Government of the Promised Son and points to the location where Jesus was. Location is important in Scripture, especially in the Gospels. It will always point you to a prophecy or historical event of importance.

Jesus got on the boat, and here, the great Scientist addressed the people. Water is a natural sound amplifier, allowing sound to travel further with clarity. We do not have any record of what Jesus preached to the crowd, but I am certain that Jesus was directing it at the fishermen whose little fleet He chose, and at His invitation they immediately followed Him. Sometimes the Word of God needs to be amplified in our hearts before we take action.

Pray with me: Father, thank You for pointing us back to prophecy and the importance of Your amplified Word. That nothing in Scripture is written “just because” but that each phrase has deep meaning for us to find. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for opening the Word for us to understand and learn from. Amen. ©
