Day 5 – Prideful
“When pride comes [boiling up with an arrogant attitude of self-importance], then come dishonor and shame, but with the humble [the teachable who have been chiseled by trial and who have learned to walk humbly with God] there is wisdom and soundness of mind.” Proverbs 11:2
I can testify from personal experience not only how pride comes to a fall, but what a great relief and wonderful new world of joy and peace is broken open when pride is removed from you and you realise that nothing in creation can give you worth more than the Creator Himself… Pride comes when we are not yet entirely sure if we are worthy, if we are truly loved and accepted by God and we want to find it in competition and in comparison – even so far as to competition and comparison with spiritual gifs, which by the way, Holy Spirit gives as and when He wants and needs and is nothing we can boast in. There is great joy to be found in being content with what you have and where you are – whether in abundance or need – and knowing that your heart is pure and your Creator loves you and that is enough.
Prayer: Lord, as You lead us on the way of the humble, it is no punishment, but an instrument through which You teach us to come back to basics and find joy in the simple things of life, those things that are so precious, that not even money can buy them. What a freedom it is to be boastful in the wonderful work You are doing in us, as opposed to having to perform to the standards of this world. May we grasp this freedom and keep hold of it and treasure it, because it is worth more than any money can buy. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
