Day 5 – Terminology: Leader and protégé
![Day 5 – Terminology: Leader and protégé](https://womenoftheword.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Titus-2-845x550.png)
“In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing incorruptness, gravity, sincerity, Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.” Titus 2:7–8 (KJV)
Titus 2 is frequently referenced for disciple-making. As Christians, we all go through seasons of being a “Leader” and a “Protégé”. It’s important to understand that no one can skip ahead and immediately become a leader without going through the necessary steps. Just as a doctor must graduate from medical school before practising medicine, Christians require guidance from those with more experience. While we have the Holy Spirit within us, having a mature Christian to guide you, is essential. We will likely find ourselves in the role of a mentee or protégé. A protégé is guided and supported by someone older or more experienced in a specified field: an older pastor might take a younger pastor under their wing to prepare them to take over in the future.
The essence of a biblical leader is built on the foundation of our relationship with God. The biblical definition of a leader is stewarding one’s God-given gifts, abilities, and opportunities, and using them to influence and serve others. A biblical leader submits to God’s authority and serves and cares for people. Jesus was the best example of a leader, and His disciples were His protégés.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for sending Jesus to be the leader and our saviour. Let us be protégés that You are proud of and equip us to take over the relay stick from the older women. Amen.
