Day 6 – Sabbath in your DNA (health)
“You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” Psalm 139:16 NLT
God built a cycle of work and rest into the fabric of creation, and every week since has echoed that first week ordained by God. This weekly cycle is divinely designed, a rhythm intentionally set to bless us with rest – physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Research in Chronobiology (the study of biological clocks) proved rhythms of seven days in creatures and plants. A seven-day week cycle is not governed by natural laws like seasons or tides but rather founded and divinely architected into the fabric of creation as a cycle of work and rest. It is our creative instinct to heed this natural cycle that modern science is just beginning to understand.
Your body follows God’s calendar. Modern medical science has shown that the body goes into a natural state of rest, entering the seventh day (Friday evening). They noticed a roughly seven-day rhythm in immune functionality. The immune markers (the substances your body uses to fight illness) spike after a full day of rest. They found that patients who observe a rest day heal faster, have lower inflammation levels, and a reduced risk of infections. From a cellular level up to the whole system, your body uses rest to repair muscles and rejuvenate cellular structures.
The Sabbath command is not arbitrary – it’s an act of love, even on a cellular level.
Prayer: Father, thank You for creating me according to Your biological cycles, and that even before I was born, You’ve already allocated Sabbath days to my life with all the others. Thank You for science proving Your greatness and how by divine design You architected rest to promote healing. Amen.
