I will recognize the voice of my husband, children, or parents in a crowded room. Without even seeing them, I know their tone, whether it carries joy or distress. My heart is tuned to them.
Jesus said His sheep recognize His voice. They know Him because they belong to Him. It is woven into our very creation to recognize the voice of our Shepherd. The challenge is not whether He speaks, but whether we train our ears and hearts to know His voice better than any other.
We each carry our own voice. We learn to recognize Godโs voice. But there is also a third voiceโthe one that whispers lies, the one that insists God is silent, the one that tries to convince us we donโt need to listen. It is the prowling, roaring lion, seeking to devour, to pull us away from Godโs glory and plan. Even when disguised, the enemyโs voice is always deceitful. Yet when we know the truth of Godโs Word, we immediately discern the counterfeit.
God is always speaking. Always. His voice is steady, faithful, and personal. And each of us has a unique way of listening, a special rhythm of recognition. The more we lean in, the more familiar His voice becomes, until it is unmistakable – like the voice of those we love most.
Pray with me: Father, thank You that I have the created ability to recognise Your voice. Help me to know it intimately so I can recognise it under any circumstances. Amen. ยฉ
