Day 93 – 1 Chronicles: The Reign of David

“David and all Israel were celebrating before God with all their might, singing songs and playing all kinds of musical instruments – lyres, harps, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets.” 1 Chronicles 13:8 NLT
Reading 1 Chronicles 10:1 to 1 Chronicles 29:30
David becomes king over all Israel and captures the city of Jerusalem. God promised him and the nation blessings, and though David loved the Lord and wanted to build a Temple to replace the Tabernacle, God denied his request. Instead, he begins to prepare for its construction. We may be unable to see the results of our labours for God in our lifetime, but David’s example helps us understand that we should serve God so that He will see His results, not so that we will see ours.
Although occasionally falling into sin, David walks step by step with God, sincerely wanting to be obedient. Through David’s successes and failures, we learn the importance of giving our whole heart to God and letting Him be the focus of our lives, striving each day to be consistent in our obedience to His will.
Prayer: Father, thank You that we can learn from David and that he did what he did with a whole and obedient heart following after Your will. Even if he did not see the Temple in all its glory, he started to prepare for it. May the work You have started through us be a preparation for what is to come. Amen.
