One of the most beautiful, classic stories of a spiritual hearer is found in the life of Samuel. As a young boy, Samuel heard God calling his name but did not recognize the voice. It was Eli who guided him, teaching him to respond: โ In that moment, Samuelโs gift of hearing was activated, and his life became a testimony of obedience to Godโs voice.
Spiritual hearing is a play-by-play gift. You hear and communicate, hear and act, hear and testify. Unlike intuition or emotion, this gift allows you to pinpoint exact moments when God spoke to you and how it impacted your life, someone else, or a situation.
For spiritual hearers, life becomes a continual journey, a storyline with God. Like Samuel, they build a narrative of encounters, each chapter marked by the voice of the Lord. To onlookers, it often seems as though hearers have a direct line to the Holy Spirit.
The voice of God comes as a direct word into your spiritโsometimes sudden, like a voice materializing out of the fog. It has an instantaneous impact, shaping decisions, actions, and testimonies. The more you obey the voice of God, the more you understand it, and the greater the anointing to move within it.
Pray with me: Father, I thank You for our spiritual ears and for gifting spiritual hearers with the beautiful ability to hear Your voice. Lord, I ask that You bless them as they discover or grow in their gift, and that they will pray with confidence: โ Amen.
