Day 32 – The Wilderness
“was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,” Luke 4:1c
Jesus’ baptism, followed by forty days in the wilderness, evokes strong parallels with the historical narrative of the Hebrew exodus through the Red Sea and their forty years of wilderness wandering. Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus received the Spirit in full—without measure—whereas individuals in the Old Testament received the Spirit only for a particular gift or specific time.
In the wilderness, the Israelites constantly needed physical sustenance. While God faithfully provided for them, they were anxious and did not trust Him completely for their daily food. Jesus, on the other hand, ate nothing during His fast, demonstrating that He relied solely on God. Where God gave Israel manna to sustain their physical bodies, Jesus ultimately gave Himself as the true Bread of Life.
The Holy Spirit might lead us, just as He led Jesus, into places where we will be proven, tested, and strengthened for the future and the plans God has for us. We should embrace our wilderness journeys as a time of obedience and utter reliance on God alone.
Pray with me: Gracious Father, thank You for Your love and guidance even in wilderness seasons. I confess that I am so dependent on You. Thank You for the manna in my life – Your provision in my life. And thank You, Jesus, for being my daily bread. Amen. ©
Love, Pastor Iriza
