Day 117 – Cost and priority

Study Luke 9:57-60

“Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head… Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:58, 60

When a man boldly volunteered to follow Jesus wherever He went, Jesus tested the reality of his commitment by exposing the cost: the Son of Man had nowhere to lay His head. Jesus did not paint a glamorized picture of ease, because following Christ is not measured by material comfort or worldly security. Walking with Him requires a willingness to let go of our earthly attachments, living by faith and finding our true, unshakeable home in Him alone.

This commitment also demands absolute, top priority. When another man was called to follow and asked for a delay to first settle his family affairs, Jesus used it to highlight a vital truth. Earthly responsibilities and family ties matter, but nothing can be allowed to sit ahead of our immediate obedience to the King and His kingdom. Jesus requires first place in our hearts, without conditions or delays.

Pray with me: Lord Jesus, I want to follow You wherever You lead, even when the road is hard. Detach my heart from earthly comforts, forgive me for putting distractions and delays ahead of my obedience, and help me to give You the unquestioned top priority and security in my life today. Amen. ©

Love, Iriza
