Breath – Day 15

It is finished
“Then Jesus uttered another loud cry and breathed his last. And the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom” Mark 15:37-38 NLT
I cannot help but smile when I read this verse. When my girls were little, I read Bible stories to them. As I explained why the curtain was torn in two, the youngest very excitedly piped in: “So this is the reason why we open curtains the way we do!” (She had her own little “Aha-moment” there). Though it is not the reason, it planted a seed. Every time I open curtains, I think of the temple curtain torn in two. The curtain separating God’s people from Him.
With Jesus’ last breath, the division between God and man was torn. The veil that separated us from our Father, was taken by Jesus and through His sacrifice – we have an open invitation to God. This was the power of Jesus’ last breath in human form. That at any time, we can step through the torn curtain into the loving arms of our Father.
When He said “Tetelestai” He meant it. It is finished. Over. Done. And He sealed His words with His last breath – tearing the curtain for us to step through.
Today, my sweet friend, make the bold decision to step through the curtain into God’s loving arms. Jesus opened the curtain from top to bottom for you.
PS: We have learned a lot about God’s breath during this devotional and it is my prayer that God’s breath will blow over your life in a mighty way.
Prayer: Father, thank You so much for sending Jesus. The immense sacrifice He did for the world, let alone for me. I am humbled to know that someone would love that much (before I even existed) to take my place. Jesus, thank You for tearing the curtain with Your breath so I can have an intimate relationship with You. Amen.
